Initial run and gas tank debris
 
So I got my 53 on the road and drove all over post today and it was awesome. People asking about it, handled like I was a little drunk but it was ok. Rarely went over 45. Of course as fate would have it, I was about a mile from home and she started dying on me. I was close to a gas station and thought maybe the old girl was thirsty. Nope after stalling again I figured the line was clogged and unscrewed the hose and blew into it and it cleared right out and got home.

So long story short I initially cleaned out the tank but today and the fact that my filters are still showing crap I think I'm gonna yank it and mount one under the bed. My wife thinks I like breaking down but I just like to get back on the road with some simple tools and luck. Lol

whats the history of the gas tank? new or sitting for a long? Need to know becuase if its new then there's alot of small micro metal shread from the factory.

if sitting too long then there's a lot rust or gas gum sump.

I always put an inline filter between the tank and the fuel pump on every rig I set up. That is after loosing a Fuel pump on I 90 in the middle of Montana due to picking up grit after forgetting my gas cap at a gas station at Grand Titon park. i coasted down hill for miles with the engine off to get to Whitehall were a kid sold me his fuel pump he had bought for his 55 Chevy as he was putting the 55 in storage because he was going into the Navy the next week.

From experience there is no set limit to when the crud quits breaking loose in a gas tank. On my 71 GMC I changed a lot of fuel filters before I finally got things sorted out. You could flush it again but I'd just put the filter in the line and carry extra filters.

Sorry about the delay, getting outta the army and job searching is squeezing my "fun time on here". Anyways tank is stock as far as I know. I first removed the lines and cleared them out with weed eater line and had to actually chisel out hard crap outta the bottom valve. Took out the tank and hosed it out and tried to get as much crap as I could out. Have an inline filter that I feel like I have to change almost every other day. At first was just tiny rust colored dirt, but I have been getting some bigger flakes and after stalling as mentioned early, I might just use a spare tank under the bed. I also would love the increased potential legroom (Im about 6"5 and sometimes the shifter, steering wheel and brakes can all be controlled with my right knee, hahah)

I suppose I could empty the tank, fill it up with water and "cut" a access hole to clean up the insides, but I'm afraid to see what's in there, hahah.

sometimes there's more then meets the eye.
First check your engine oil to see if theres gasoline in it due to bad gas pump.
2nd. replace gas tank and gas lines. expensive but problem solved.
3rd. if no money then replaces lines and get the gas tank professionally cleaned.

Red-Kote gas tank liner works great in rusty tanks.

Ya I recently installed a 250 fuel pump but I will keep an on the oil. I'm gonna happy to pull the tank honestly to get even an inch of space. Only regret would have to figure out how to get the stock fuel gauge to work with a 90 ohm sender.
