Dually Wheels

Need help deciding what wheels work on my 73-87 dually. The stock 16's were fine 25yrs ago. Now there are so many options out there.
Can I get dually wheels from any chevy/gmc truck? 88-present What's the best tire size for direct bolt on 19's or 19.5 Please explain meaning of 22.5 Or 24in semi wheel is milled down. Will any semi or bread truck rims work on our trucks? |

Coool! Scott do you know much about dually wheel fitments.
I've talked to the owner of tennessee wheel & tire briefly about his companies products. but $4k for wheels and tires is more then what I paid for my square body, so I'm looking for alternatives. Here are some from American Force. |

Re: Dually Wheels
Not quite sure but all i know is you need the adapters to make them work, they sell them in salvage yards around here pretty cheap but they need shined up and stuff but at least its something to work with.

You might be able to find some other 22" semis for cheaper, but when you figure the money you'll spend on paint & body to widen the fenders or the money you'd spend to narrow the rear end, I'm not sure that you'd come out on top. Now, if you have no plans of going that low and don't mind the rear wheels sticking out, then it's a different story. |

What is it about the tow nastys that makes that possible? Width of rim? Or to reword it, what would need to be done to say a junk yard Semi rim to make it fit like a tow nasty without narrowing rear or modifying the fenders?
Custom offset 22" milled wheel offered by Tennessee Wheel & Tire to prevent your wheels sticking out past the rear dually fenders. This wheel saves roughly 2" per side when compared to the normal 22" wheels |

if you want to run them on a 2wd truck and lower it you'll need to do one of the following nerrow your rear end or change to a cab and chassy rear or get the townasty wheels from TW&T Im running the townastys on mine see the link below |

PigRig I've always admired your truck, even before I owned a dually. Yours is the perfect stance, tucks tire but still has some meat on there and most of has a custom cut. That's what I'm looking for.
What are the specs on your truck? Lowering? Tire size? |
Re: Dually Wheels
On my truck before it was bagged I had my 22s with standard width 1 ton rear end and all 6 wheels were 22s my back wheels did not stick out because I took both rear wheels down to a machine shop and where the two rear wheels bolt together I had them machine the mounting face of each wheel down to about 3/8 or 1/2" (cant remeber which) thick which kept them from sticking out. I run a 6.5/8 drop for about a year with this set up before bagging the truck. when we bagged it I did have the rear end narrowed for clearance.

Re: Dually Wheels
badgmc you are exactly correct I just machined both back wheels. I have an issue running a 16" inside wheel and different tire size it seems odd to me. Thanks for oogling my truck (i think)!!! lol.

I hope I can get mine to looking half as good as yours one day. |
Re: Dually Wheels
if you make it low enough you cant see the rear tires anyways right? By the looks of your blue GMC you will pass me no problem, that truck is sweet.

Re: Dually Wheels
Im looking at the picture you posted 1badgmc
not trying to be a dick but let me correct you the first picture is a std hub pilot wheel thats had the flang milled down (in my opinon) to clear the lugs from hitting the front fenderwells when laied out and the second picture is the townasty and judging by the flang thickness it hasnt been milled. thats a good picture to see the offset of the townasty wheel now let me say this Im not an expert semi wheel guy but Ive spent a lot of time on the phone with trevor from tennessee wheel and tire before I bought 12 wheels and 8 adaptors. along with reading the alcoa book on up keep of their wheels, and its not how to wash and polish them. the book goes in to detail on how to fix and service them so that truck companys can save them and make them last. so with that said heres my opinon. if the wheels are at a junk yard its for a good resone, and their are alot of different typs of semi wheels: size, bolt pattron, hub piloted, non hub piloted, lug piloted, non lug piloted, offsets and so on unless you know what your looking for your better off to make the jump and buy them from someone thats on the same page as you. in the long run you may save yourself time and money. Im not try'n to tell anyone how to spend their dollars because you'll do it your way in the end |
