Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build
I was able to spend a little time grinding welds on the frame front C notches. Did a little layout / mock up on trying to support the front frame area ahead of the crossmember.
Pics to follow soon. |

Re: My Wife's 55.2 Carryall / Suburban build

It was a pleasure to meet you out at the races, you should have hung out a little later with us, a pretty well known frame builder showed up who is a friend of mines ex boyfriend (they are still good friends). I cant mention his name but he is going to stop by my shop in the next 2 weeks to check out the suburban frame and I also hit him up about apprenticing in his shop for a bit to sharpen some skills and experience. Hopefully I can take my experience to the next level with his help and knowledge. |
Re: My Wife's 55.2 C4 Carryall / Suburban build
Well, yesterday I managed to acquire almost all the small hardware needed to finish the rear suspension mounting. I started tack welding the 4 link brackets into place and should have those done in the next couple days. After that it will be prepping or the first of many body fitting sessions. I will post pics very soon, as I wanted to have several of them so I could show the steps I took. New to get some DOM tubing today to finish the 4 link setup.

Re: My Wife's 55.2 C4 Carryall / Suburban build
Ok UPDATE:
I tack welded the 4 link bars up and dropped them off to my buddy who was going to TIG weld them up tonight for me ( you can see them in the top left of the 1st photo ). I thought about TIG welding them myself but his look really good, as Mine would look really NOT so good. plus I am out of ARGON> :( I also welded the rear wing support brackets, 4 link front brackets and then ground them down. http://henderson6.com/truck/4linkbracket.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/rearwing.jpg I also thought I would post a couple pics from the pomona drag races this last weekend. My truck, My buddy Lenny's Panel, then a friend Carol's 55 with chameleon paint job. This 55 looks beautiful, I am not a fan of that paint, but the work in the body shows. http://henderson6.com/truck/pomonashow.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/pomonashow2.jpg And one of my truck through my friends hubcap, really bad pic but I thought it looked cool. http://henderson6.com/truck/hubcap.jpg and occasionally I got the question " how do you drive it SO low? aren't you worried you'll scrape? " I just smiled and told them about it being bagged. . |

Todays UPDATE: So I get to the shop and my bars are waiting for me :D WOO HOO so I started to get to work in tapping them out and installing them. I then went on to fabricate the shock mounts and attach them to the frame. Here are few pics of what I did. I wanted to keep the same look as the other brackets I made, hopefully to help them flow together: http://henderson6.com/truck/shock1.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/shock2.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/shock3.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/shock4.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/shock5.jpg http://henderson6.com/truck/shock6.jpg . |

Re: My Wife's 55.2 C4 Carryall / Suburban build
Damn you do great metal work. The large hole saw did the trick notching the frame for the rack, any tips on doing it this way or just have at it?
Thanks for sharing. |

As for using the hole saws it works great, a really great wrist and drill bit saver is to drill a 1/4" hole all the way through 1st. then use the hole saw to finish it out. If you don't pre drill the 1/4", when the bit pops through and the hole saw teeth grab, it binds and either twists the heck out of your wrist or the bit just breaks. Then I took a cut off blade on a grinder to get the vertical cuts just right. I hope this info helps you |
