I wonder if we can find the cfm output of a 73-87 motor compared to our earlier ones?

IF you want a neat cheap upgrade that will flow alot more air, you can take a blower out of an 73-87 pickup with air conditioning (flange bolt pattern is identical to 63-66 trucks). Now the squirrel cage of the air con plastic squirrel cage will be about 3/4 of an inch taller than the metal cages in the 60-66 trucks, BUT if your careful you can trim the top of the plastic cage down to the metal cage INSTALLED height, reinstall on the newer blower motor and reinstall in your heater box. It moves ALOT more air than the standard blower motor and will heat your cab in no time... I have done this a few times since I live up here in the frozen tundra and it woked everytime... You could install a slightly higher amp fuse too, but I have found that the stock fuse is sufficient.....

I've got a pair of '63's sitting side by side....
My 4X4 service body and the short-step 2X4 project.
I did replace the motor in my driver with a new motor....I destroyed the plastic fan when removing the backing plate....it was different from my factory one....so I had to re-use the metal fan.
I can take pic's of the cheap heat model....if any-one needs to see that one...
The one in my green truck looks as it should.

After disassembling and re-furb'ing my deluxe model last week, I was left wishing I could've figured out how to replace the felt wiper/gasket thingy for the heat/defrost flapper...
I left it as it was....with a pretty good internal leak....which doesn't really seem to affect the way it performs.

Thanks for the info.I never would have guessed there was two heater Choices. I thought my panel was converted from a heater delete or something. Its the thriftair. What about auxillary heaters for panels and burbs. Did they have one?

good luck finding that wiper motor! my gear was shot and finally found somdeone with a good motor. the 62' bolt right to the firewall, no welded on spacer on the firewall, I restored wiper motors I had and then went to install them when paint was done, what a surprise!

A lot of good information in this thread. I have a Arizona truck with the economy heater,it's a good thing I don't drive it in Iowa in the winter unless it's a nice day.

I had one of these 6 1/2" fans on my 64 GMC 960. On full it really moved the air around the cab, winter and summer. It has a small rheostat to adjust the speed. If you have a contact for school buses these are virtually a standard option. The company who supplied GM still exists and there prices are out of this world. They wanted close to a hundred dollars for a replacement switch.
The description of the fan states that it's a quiet operation, not when it is on full!

I thought they may have had one but I have never seen one. I've been saying I'll make one for years. Probably never will but it would be nice. i would like to find a complete one out of a school bus and put it in the very rear.

Totally of subject but twenty minutes ago I was wondering if the power assist trucks had the same steering box as nonpower. I took a picture of one today to compare to mine, which looks the same to me . judging from that picture they must have been the same with a different pitman arm. this is good news. I may need to swap one.
