5.3 swap into 72 C-10 Part list.

So i have searched the threads, but didn't get all the answers I needed. Can you help me??

I have a 5.3 /4l60E to replace a inline 6 250 / 3 speed Manual on another project.

Correct me if I am wrong:
-I will need to use V8 motor mounts before I use the LS adapter plates.

-is it better to move the engine more forward to have clearance at the firewall? or will there be clutch fan issues if using factory fan?

-will 73 up motor mounts work better for this application?

-will I need to replace the oil pan with a smaller one? i will be planning on lowering this truck quite low, I do not want it to be damaged.

-are there any headers that fit nicely in between the frame rails/ motor mounts?

-A new transmission cross member will be needed.

-I have the donor trucks crossmember, although it is for a 4X4, which I will not be using since i will have a 2WD. would it make sense to modify that to fit or build from scratch or is there another possibility?

muscle car oil pan works great
you need v8 mounts and adapter plates
headers are tough , holley makes some nice manifolds
ccp has a kit on e bay that includes nice headers for around 900

this is by no means set in stone, only what I have used on the 67-72 LS swaps

- stock motor towers & mounts with Dirty Dingo sliders

- CTS-v oil pan sump is flush with bottom of cross member when used with above towers/mounts

- Doug Thorley THY-323Y-C Tri-Y headers were made specifically for this swap - fit GREAT

- Ive used both ECE & CPP in the past but there are multiple vendors who offer trans crossmembers for these type swaps

ccps kitis 860

http://www.ebay.com/itm/67-68-69-70-...53.m1438.l2649

it includes the thorley headers , which are very nice , they are 650 by themselves . expensive headers

The sliders allow front to back movement correct? Is it better to be more forward or back and why? Do the standard adaptors not have the correct alignment?

Is there a difference between models and makes of pans?

Has anyone used 73+ mounts or perches?

The "muscle car oil pan" is the same as the "CTS oil pan" , thats the vehicle they came stock on .

here is a listing on ebay

I believe the muscle car pan is the hummer lh8 pan. The ctsv pan is vertically shorter than the lh8 pan.

I used the this
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...del/c10-pickup

The kit worked well, and included perches, slider mounts, DT tri y headers and trans crossmember. I have my 6.0L 4L80 setup as far back as the mounts would let me go and still have firewall clearance. The stock oil pan hangs down about 1/2" below the cross member. With the motor perches in the back holes of the cross member.

You are right , the lh8 pan is what I have used in c10s in the past , ends up being just about even with the front crossmember , the stock truck pans stick 2 to 3 inches lower ,

On my 68 I used a camaro oil pan, dipstick, pickup and windage tray Trailblazer SS maniolds bought new from the dealer and I used the transdapt engine plates and stock mount and trans crossmember all worked very well

Leave in the 6-cyl location for better weight distribution. I used an F-body pan. For header/manifold clearance, I used the Performance Online tubular mounts in the 6-cyl position. Don't cheap out on motor mounts and adapter plates. Spend the money once, even if it's a bit more. I used Dirty Dingo sliders this recent time around.

Lots of photos of my swap vHEREv

Re: 5.3 swap into 72 C-10 Part list.

I'm going to bag it. I will require the pan to be at the crossmember or higher. Looks like the Caddy pan will be my best bet then.

Will I need all the CTS internals that go in the pan or will the truck pan guts work inside it.

I have a set of unknown adaptor plates, sounds like sliders are the builders choice, is it because of the adjustability or are the built better than the others?

If you use the CTSV pan you will have to buy the pickup tube that matches it. I have used the factory 5.3 windage tray with that oil pan and pickup tube.

The 73 and up sbc perches work good with ECE engine mounts wth the CTSV pan.

You'll need the windage tray and pickup tube. Of course if you want it even better, Improved Racing offers windage trays with crank scrapers, and trap door oil pan baffles.

What year whpuld have these pans been from? What size engine? Also what other models of cars these would have possibly been in.

I'm going to look for used parts before going to a dealership to pay too much if I can help it.

Want to save money , if you know someone who welds alluminum have them cut and paste "weld" the bottom of the stock truck pan , and oil pickup

I purchased my trans crossmember from these guys at http://www.IFABSPEED.com.
Very nice to do business with, shipped fast and I could not build it myself for the price.

No turbo planned. ... I could be talked into one, only after this project gets running first.
