Vin and Engine code help!!

I have been trying to figure out what is going on here. My blazer has this VIN:
CKU189F190942
This I have interpreted to mean it came with:
4x4, 5L, 1/2T, and Blazer, 1979, flint. Did I miss anything there?

the engine in it has the following partial:
C4B155041
and ID:
K0405TKY

It looks like the engine code says it was built in Ontario on April 5th, and is a 350 from a Conventional Cab with 160hp and a 4bbl carb, with the body styles being C20-3500. I don't know what the body styles part means.

The partial VIN tells me that the vehicle was a 1974, built in Baltimore. I can assume the 3rd digit was an L based on the engine. What does the C mean? I can't find that one.

What am I missing as far as the vehicle the engine came out of? I would like to know, but have no idea. What vehicles were made in Baltimore in 1974? would an engine from Canada have been shipped to Baltimore to be put in a vehicle?

thanks for the insight.

Re: Vin and Engine code help!!

Hi Nothinghead,
Based on your VEHICLE'S V.I.N. :
C=Chevrolet
K=4x4
U=305 V8
1=half ton
8=Blazer
9=1979
F=Flint, MICHIGAN
190942=Build #

The 305 motor that WAS in your Blazer would have one of the following suffixes: TYR TYS UTA UTB UYR or UYS

The 350 motor that IS in your Blazer could be from a vehicle that matches the codes you observed, I'm not very good with Engine Codes. I DO know that the "TKY" block designation was also in 1980 C/K Blazers also.

IMHO, the motor is NOT original to the vehicle. Doesn't sound like its bad news though, btw.... :tee:

Good to know, thanks. I believe they are referring to Baltimore MD.

I dated the engine at 1974 based on the year digit of the partial VIN stamped in the engine.

I see you are in Warren. I lived in Eastport for a while before I moved down to Baltimore.

The "TKY" suffix is listed as: 1980 350cid LS9 165hp 4bbl
It was built by McKinnon Industries Canada om April 5.

Re: Vin and Engine code help!!

I saw (I forget where now) that the TKY suffix was also used in 74. the partial VIN on the engine states (to me at least) that the vehicle this engine originally came from was a 1974.

is this wrong?
