A little support for my 72 driveshaft support bearing

I have seen where these carrier bearing mounts break off on this style so I added a little support. This is a fernco rubber pipe hub I got at lowes. I cut it at 6 1/2 inches, I should have done 7 1/2. I think I will get another one. The ridges on the side hold it in nice and tight. I sprayed it with WD40 and tapped it in from the transmission side.

Nifty! Let us know if you can feel and additional vibrations or sounds and how it turns out in time. Looks like a great idea to me.;)

Not sure that will prevent the metal from breaking however I think having one in the tool box might get you home if the bearing housing does break.

I recently replaced my hanger bearing, not due to the metal breaking, the rubber was worn out and shaft was scraping on the housing.

I like it, I like it a lot...I'm wondering if a full radiused piece with a single slit to clear the stem at the top? Zip-tie and it should help dampen and keep the bearing stem located and held in position..? ;)

I tried to get more of it in there but couldn't get it to go. I am sure I can get the 7 1/2 inch in which should go half way around. I think it will be plenty.

In your opinion? How can dampening a vibration be a waste of time? Not trying to start a pissing contest but please explain how or why?
