5.7 enough.....

Is a 99 Suburban (3/4 ton) 350 enough for towing a car/trailer 1/2 dozen times/year? It is an open trailer with a 3600lb car.

been looking at big blocks but found a loaded super clean 99 Sub with 92k miles for 7k$. Leather, barn doors, good rubber, 4x4 SLT.

Thanks-
John

That sounds like an excellent tow vehicle for what you need. Unless you are towing uphill the whole way the 5.7 will be enough. If you are buying it for just a tow vehicle and will only use it for that you may want to look to a big block but I dont think you will be disapointed in that 99!

in a nutshell it will sit and be used as a 3rd vehicle for dump runs, transport our 4 shepherds around, towing, trips to carlisle, swap meets and other utility purposes.

what gear ratio was standard on the small blocks? Were 4.10's available? If so what code on option list in glove box.

Its enough. I have 99 2wd burb, I've towed a 26 foot travel trailer for a couple of years. Oh, I have also passed semi's going uphill with no trouble at all.

I run a 5.7 in my 3500 and it is plenty, mind you it doesn't measure up to the diesel but it still pulls amazingly.
