Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

Just thought I'd post up some pics of my 250 rebuild.
I guess it's not really a rebuild though. More like a disassembly/cleaning/swapping parts/reassembly...

Here's what it looked like a couple weeks ago!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ebeginning.jpg

I skipped al the disassembly and cleaning pics. Who wants to see that anyway...

Tad cleaner.

Actually it's gray primer with clear coat over it! LOL
I still have to touch up the spots where I removed to much paint on the gasket surfaces.

I picked the gray because it kinda looks "industrial" and it'll be easy to spots the leaks....

I'm gonna try to pick up the NV4500 later today, (from a friend), so I can go through it also and cut the output shaft off to the correct length for the AA adapter kit.
No need to hurry for me, since I'm still waiting on $, (tax return), to order the adapter kit.:(

Yea, I'll have to get one of those.
At first I thought I might just bend the terminal back up and try to use this one, but when I bent it up I found out it has/had 2 terminals...
My truck doesn't have the indicator light so I didn't know about the 2 terminals.
Now I'll have to find a place for the indicator light too!

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

Not sure on the 72 truck(think thats what your working on) but the instrument cluster for 73-87 is the same for 2wd or 4wd. You just have to add the bulb to the 2wd to make it work. Of course, you need the switch and wire too.

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

Yep, mime is a 72. I don't think the 72 and earlier ever came with a 4x4 light but then again, I could be wrong. Before I found this board I didn't know they came with alot of stuff!

Sure, send it on over. I'll trade ya 205 rebuild labor for a NV4500 Chevy inputand/or output shaft! (For my "new" Dodge NV that was supposed to be a Chevy NV.... )

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

When I started playing around with a 4wd I didn't think the (73-87) 2wd cluster had the light and lettering but it did. Hopefully the 72 is the same. Just add the bulb socket.
Went to chevy to get a new switch. They couldn't come up with one. Got one from a shop in calif. It had a chevy p/n and I went back to chevy and they said, oh yea, we got it. Go figure.

Don't suppose you still have that part number would ya? I've been wondering how much of a battle it would be to get that switch.

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

p/n 14024304 If they don't come up with it, niehoff ignition parts back-up lgt sw p/n dr-130t is the same thing. They all have a p/n15121 493 stamped on them but I can't identify who the manuf is.
If that don't get it for you, let me know and I will come up with thee shop in calif who supplied me with mine. They have rebuild kits, and about anything else needed for transfer cases

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

By the way, the paint job looks good. I just took a can of black spray paint and did mine.
Also, that switch is, or was, 12 bucks.

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

The 72 did not have a light. You will need to add one.

What did you have to do to switch it over to the bolt on yoke.

Thanks! That will probably save alot of hassle at the parts store.

Basically you have to change the output shaft itself, the rear bearing retainer, the speedo gear, and add the yoke. Everything bolts up and fits fine.
Those 15 little needle bearings between the input shaft and the output shaft are a little of an adventure but not to bad. A little gun grease or vaseline and they stay in place while you put the two shafts together.

I did change the small housing that the rear bearing retainer bolts to also, but that was just because the other housing vent was perfectly in front of one of the bolts that holds the housing to the case body... (Open end wrench only to get it out.) Now I can use a socket/ratchet.

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

Not sure if I saved you some work or not. After I sent that last night, I looked at the different places I had dealt with and things have changed.
I have a folder of everything I have bought or fixed on my truck so I know the stuff existed a year ago.
GM Parts direct does not list the switch anymore. Maybe chevy has a new p/n for the 14024304.
Under the Niehoff webb site, I don't see the DR-130t number. I know it existed cause I have one right in front of me in the box.
check: http://niehoff.com/catalogs/oeint_public.asp put in the p/n 14024304
The vendor I got one in calif from, the 800 # is not any good. I do have his Email address if that is any good.
Wish I knew the manuf cause that 15121 is right on the switch.

The 14024304 number comes right up at the Niehoff sight! Even has a pic of it.
The local parts store should be able to cross reference it and find me one somehow.
The Niehoff site says "Manufacturer, GM" and "Description, BW". Could the "BW" stand for Borg Warner maybe?
I'll try the parts store today and see what they come up with and post it back here.

Thanks alot, even if the #'s aren't exact, it's alot more than I had!

Re: Few pics of my NP205 rebuild

Got the switch today! Had to order it yesterday but it came in this morning.

The guy at the parts store, (Carquest), said the 14024304 is a GM number. He recognized it right off as being a GM number when I got confused and told him it was a Niehoff number.

He cross referenced it and came up with the number EC TCA3, which is in a CarQuest box but says "A product of Standard Motor Products, Inc."
My cost was $16.83.
A little higher than your estimate/cost but I suppose everything costs more all the time.
Kinda dissapointed it didn't come with a new gasket, since I lost one out of my 205 gasket kit, but that's a minor detail.

Thanks again for the numbers and effort to look 'em up!:metal: :metal:

Just out of curosity, did it have that 15121 number stamped on it?
Thanks for the updated number, I will add it to my info.
