Under bed gas tank options for 1956 pickup
 

Now that I've got my rear wheels on my '56, it's about to time to find a gas tank to install under the bed. Does anyone know of any junk yard tanks that will fit right in? I know about the aftermarket kits out there, but most of them are only 19 gallon tanks, and I'm afraid that won't get me very far down the road with my thirsty big block.

Any tips or ideas?

The one from a 69 Mustang/Cougar fits between the frame rails. After you remove the last 2 cross bars. There 2 capacity type tanks the smaller is not visable after done. The other thing is the filler neck they have one that is
almost straight up which is good to put the filler thru the bed floor. The other one is about at a 45deg angle and is good for running it thru a flip done license plate style. Here in San Jose there is a few Mustang resto places so it was easy. They are only around a 100 dollars the best way to go for the price and the great look.

i found a blazer tank i am going to use. i don't have it yet, but i think it is like 25 gallons or something like that.

late 70's to mid 80's Suburban/Blazer tanks work good & the Suburban tanks you can get them up to 38-40gallons.

Where do they fit? Do you have to tank out any crossmembers??

In the Burbs/Blazers they fit in the rear of the truck & all you have to do is unbolt the straps & they drop down...Joe

Here's one from LCM I'm using 139.00 for the tank and about 70 or so for the sending unit for fuel injection with 3 or 4 outs. Here's the link bud

Beautiful. So you're putting the tank underneath a crossmember? Will I have any problems putting it between crossmembers (behind the pumpkin)?

Man, I'm slow on the uptake. Just measured the "box" between my rear crossmembers, and it's about 15.5 inches front to rear. I'm realizing now, i think, that these tanks mount below the last cross-member? Is that right?

Hear is what I did but this won't give you a large capacity. I used an old boat gas tank found this one on Ebay $50 or can be found at local boat shop out of old boat. This one is only 16 gal but fits right between origional braces. I made custom mounts. Working good so far. Much cheaper than buying the bolt in ones I have seen for about $400. Just an idea thought I would pass it on.

53 Lo Chevy, are you going to run a Vortec, I paln on running a 4.8 or 5.3 in my '51. Will the Mustang tank work with that or should I use the LMC deal?
