67-72 Rear end choices
What are my rear end choices. Like will a 78 trans am rear end fit? Or if I find a non posi 12 bolt out of a chevy truck will the posi unit out of a car 12 bolt work? Someone told me that they are different. Or will that 8 1/2 10 bolt from a car fit into a truck 10 bolt?
Thanks again guys A.J. |
Re: 67-72 Rear end choices
You can make just about anything work. Most important will be the width at the wheel mounting surface and your u joint size. Brackets to bolt it up are available from the aftermarket. My personal opinion is based on how I use my trucks. I would never install a smaller rear end in a truck that what it came with originally. I would not replace a 12 bolt with a 10 bolt or a Dana 44. That being said I use my trucks as trucks, they don't get lowered or see low profile tires. If yours is going to be a show truck and be lowered and bagged, then a smaller rear axle will work ok, they were installed in thousands of newer trucks. A lot of questions about swapping car and truck stuff between 12 bolts. There are differences but I can't recall them.
