Temp/Compass Mirror ?

What years did GM install the temp/compass mirror? My '99 Tahoe is showing "OC" in the temp lens, which I was told means an "open circut" which means most likely the outside temp sensor took a dump. I ordered one from local O'rielly's parts house to be in Weds. but kind of curious when they were first offered. Would it be worth possibly picking up one from a parts yard to have as a spare? Do they crap out pretty regular? Thanks for all info and replies.

the trucks didnt get them till 03 unless you got a lt with onstar. i never had one crap out mom has a 99 blazer it still works great

Thanks for the reply, picked up the temp sensor this afternoon, will put it on when wife gets home with the Tahoe. Hope that fixes it, these newer trucks with all the gadgets are nice until they quit working. :lol:
