How to pull rear axle on 3/4 ton 1966 C20
I need to replace wheel bearings, and have run into trouble almost at the start. How do I get 3/4 ton rear axles to release so I can pull them to remove drums?
Thank you for any help. Happy Motoring! |
Re: How to pull rear axle on 3/4 ton 1966 C20
Check the ends of the axles. Are there two threaded holes in the flange? If so you thread 2 bolts in the holes and it will push the axle out. Does it have studs or bolts. If it has studs there may be cone washers inside the flange. the end you see is split like a lock washer, smack the side of the axle flange with a hammer to shock load the cone washers and release them. If it is just standard bolts and you have them removed the may be stuck to the gasket. Just smack the side of the axle flange with a small ball peen hammer, it should come loose.

ok, you were right, thanks. Now I'm having trouble removing the oil seals on the rear brakes. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just set the hub up on something so the seal has clearance under it. Then use a long rod or punch, and a hammer and gently tap on the inner bearing against the seal, and that should remove it from the hub.
