real "Factory" Black 71-72 Cheyenne Longbed 1/2 ton 4x4

I have been into these trucks for over 20 years and I have never seen a "real" Black 71-72 Cheyenne longbed 1/2 ton 4x4. I would really like to see one whether it's for sale or not. I have seen 2wd short and longbeds as well as shortbed 4x4's.

Anyone ever owned one or know of a real one??

Thanks,
Ray

Does Bill Athey have one?

The only 72 4x4 that Bill Athey has I believe is the Orange/White one. He has some nice parts and I told him he should build that truck:)

67/72 Junkie, that will be a nice truck your friend has when it's done.

tkeduk8r, thats a rare truck you have too. I believe years back I recall seeing a factory Black longbed 70.

No Big-block 4x4s, so the color and other details don't matter.

Big block 4x4s didn't happen until the 73-87 generation.

too much stuff 04-17-2010 04:41 PM

They are out there. Generally I don't save pictures of CK10 but I have over the years. Here is a very notable 72 K10 Cheyenne Super stepside in Black/White with Parchment trim.

One I let slip away was a K10 Cheyenne Super fleetside SWB in solid Black with Blue trim. If it had had buckets I'd probably still be looking for it.

SS Tim,
i'm curious about that long stepside--is that a legit truck or a "put together" truck? i've seen several short stepper supers but never a long stepper super. i tried to send you a P.M. but your box is full.

Jerry, that was a legit truck. I tried to buy it, even had someone check it out for me. I had a bunch of pics of it including the SPID, but they are gone. It just wasn't quite as nice as I wanted. Very unique truck for sure.

It is a real truck. Uplevel steps are out there just not always still stepsides. Trucks tend to become what "sells".
I've even tracked down a couple of my unicorns, C/30 9' steps in CST or higher trims... but I digress.

As far as Black 4x4s go, they were always few and far between. After all can you think of a worse color for a daily use 4x4?

I'll try to make a hole in my PM box tonight and get back to you.

Seller's ad copy witout comment...

"One of Chevrolet's rarest trucks! A factory-built, all original, Half-ton, LWB, Stepside. Chevrolet reports manufacturing only 407 of these in 1972. The original owner (I am the second) ordered it directly form Chevrolet. It was a daily driver from June, 1972 until early 1983 when it was parked in a garage and has pretty much sat ever since. Although the original 350 V8 motor ran great, the owner wanted to put in a new crate engine before the odometer turned 100,000. The new engine was installed and has less than 100 miles. I have the matching number original engine to go with the truck (see pictures). The transmission, transfer case, drive lines, etc. are all original. It has been sitting in a garage for about 25 years. Just about everything is original and in unbelievable condition. No rust but lots of dust. Original paint still looks beautiful. After pulling it out of the garage and to make it drivable, I put in a new battery, new exhaust (the original pipes were garbage), air filter, distributor (still have original), interior carpet, dash pad, rebuilt a rusted out radiator, power steering box, and changed a few light bulbs. Other than that, the truck is still the exact same truck it was in 1972. For those that like the classic 1967-1972 Chevy truck, this is a rare find."

My brothers plain 71 4x4 lwb had a 72 cab swap on it that had black and cheyenne options on the spid. Not sure if it was a real 4x4 though but it did have the high hump tunnel. Ill try and get a pic tomorrow.

Here is a pic of my SPID. It's not a long bed Cheyenne but is a 72 short wide original black 4x4 gmc sierra with some good options. I'm in the process of fixing her up.

Sure David, I have a thing for Black trucks. I haven't ran across many over the years. Is this the one you are restoring? I would love to see a 1/2 ton longbed 4x4
