What was i thinking..First project 70c10
Figured i would start a thread showing some progress ive made, have been working and driving it for a little over a year now, been working on it with dad and having a blast learning what not to do (just kidding). unforutnatley, i have done a good portion of work...but have not logged or taken pics of it...tsk tsk i know. It was my first truck, and i only paid $500 for it, so what more can you ask for. Main things i have done are:
Front disc swap 350 Swap T-5 install Lowering Shocks/Springs New floorboards/Rockers Power steering/Brakes Primered Several other odds and ends, pics coming soon.. |

Re: What was i thinking..First project 70c10
Lets put it this way, i dont think i would ever go back to a three speed. The Gear ratio's were similar, so its got about the same torque in first and second as the 3speed. i love having the 5th gear, makes it nice for cruising the interstate at 70-75 mph.

Re: What was i thinking..First project 70c10
Would it hold up behind a healthy 350? Post how you did it and pics please I wanna ditch the 3spd.

Re: What was i thinking..First project 70c10
Holds up behind mine fine. Wish i had pics to post, but i dont lol. It was fairly easy, if you find a t-5, you will have to have the input shaft (the splines) cut all the way back to the collar if that makes sense, so the clutch will ride fine, just get a 10 in clutch and the right throwout collar, bolt it up, modify the driveshaft, (had to shorten mine about 2 inches), and your on your way.

Re: What was i thinking..First project 70c10
what did it cost you$?
Im just worried about it not being strong enough, vortec headed 350, not in yet but at the shop.. |
Re: What was i thinking..First project 70c10
Bought the transmission not knowing what was wrong with it from a friend of mine that has had it and needed to get rid of it, unfortunatley for me the main shaft was shot, so including the cost of the original purchase, plus the rebuild to be done, plus clutch and throwout bearing, it was around $475.00. not bad.
