LSX Swap Headers
Im sure this topic has been beat to death already, but i want to know what other options have worked for you out there besides the Doug Thorley. I am using CPP engine mounts and i set the works back about two inches from the stock mounting location (someone told me that i used the 4x4 engine mount holes, but i dont know if thats true). The engine is out of a 2001 Camaro SS. 5.7L
I would love some Thorleys but have a hard time justifying the cost. I have heard that pacesetter headers and such fit with some modification. Does anyone have pictures or directions of/for the mod? Thats all i can think of right now.... unless Doug Thorley is reading this right now and wants to sponser me a set of Headers haha |
Re: LSX Swap Headers
I used the cheapo ebay stainless f-bodies. Only mods were pie cutting the collectors and bending them in about 6" or so from the end of the collector so they would be aimed more straight back instead of out towards the rails. I have the same ones on my 02 z-28, thick flanges, excellent welds, and $200 to the door for polished stainless.

Re: LSX Swap Headers
can you tell me about your truck? Year, make, engine, engine mounts. Do you have pictures of the headers? Installed so I could see the modification? Thanks in advance

2005 Lq9 with th400 stock sbc frame mounts in the rear two factory holes. New rubber sbc mounts from autozone. Made the adapter plates out on some metal that we had in the shop. Pics of truck in Cali forum

Re: LSX Swap Headers
Hey everyone that is interested - go to the Site Feedback area and show your support for an LS swap area. That way we could all see what motor mount setup works best and which headers fit best in one place!:metal:
I will be doing a 6.0 swap in the near future, so I think being able to get everyone who's done the swap to give their insight would help a lot of others too. |
Re: LSX Swap Headers
I have a set of the Thorley swap headers new in the box that i'll take $425 shipped for.

Re: LSX Swap Headers
The Doug Thorleys fit great. They require new plug wires though. I went with Red adjustable boot angle wires from MSD. Ordered at Autozone. My 5.3 is set on 6 cyl stands in back set of holes, using stock v8 rubber mounts for 68 c20 and homemade adapter plates using pattern on LS1tech.com. The only problem I had was the collectors dump close to the tranny crossmember and parking brake lines on both sides. The exhaust man I use enjoyed that. The tranny crossmember was moved forward for the 4l60e by 2 inches by the way. Aftermarket crossmember would have done away with that though. Good luck with your project. Here's a little incentive to go with the DT's.

Re: LSX Swap Headers
Hey man, I put in 00-02 pacesetters in with not a lot of mods.. I used the tubular pedestals/mounts and trans crossmember kit from performance online.. All I had to do was dent the one tube for the LH lower control arm..
If your interested shoot me a PM and come and take alook.. Its far from done, but it runs... Trevor |
Re: LSX Swap Headers
