"The Huntsman"
I purchased this unit from LockDoc and it is a pretty decent 1972 "Huntsman" camper. It even had the original intercom system, and the stove has never been used. I will have it in the back of my Longhorn when the Longhorn can move under it's own power. I'll get more pics later. We used it last weekend and it worked out great so far. Thanks Leon!

Re: "The Huntsman"
Pretty cool!
Sounds like you got a nice camper, and it looks well taken care of from the outside anyway. |

I'm glad to see that one saved. I just may know a bit about those particular campers. I had the same camper on my '71 Custom Camper/20. My kids grew up camping in class. Have fun with it!

Re: "The Huntsman"
Seeing how we were keeping this camper on a budget, we installed a window air in the right rear window. Later on I will put a window back there and put a nice roof unit on there. I haven't found any decent used ones, and I figure if we keep this a while I might as well get a new one. We tried the refrig and it doesn't work on electricity, so I might replace it with a dorm type fridge. Those multi fuel units are real pricey too. This camper definitely needs to be in a 3/4 ton or bigger though. The ole dodge didn't like it too well.

Re: "The Huntsman"
Very cool.....
I might actualy own a long bed if I had a peice of history like that lying around:D:lol: |
Re: "The Huntsman"
Thanks. Right now I'm trying to figure out how I want to come up with a hitch for the truck while the camper is in it. I might have the camper in it when we go to the All Truck Nats in September. IDK though.

Re: "The Huntsman"
My "new" truck had a huntsmen camper on it when I was buying it I had to have the PO remove it because I couldn't ship it with it on. When I got the truck I found in all the paper work the info on the camper. It had a lifetime warranty maybe I should have left it on haha!

Re: "The Huntsman"
Sweet!!! I'm jealous. Later on I'm hoping to find a travel trailer to be pulled by my 67 Burb. My g/f and I have been looking at campers like that for our 83 C30.

That Longhorn will act like the camper's not even on there. It was easy to forget it was there on my '71 (watch those branches!). I think it may have settled an inch and rode a bit smoother, but handled like it had nothing on there.
Here's a couple more pictures to help inspire what you'll have when putting it back on one of these trucks: |
Re: "The Huntsman"
Thanks Tim. That's kind of cool how the parchment almost matched the camper's gold color on it. I am glad it will settle the spring pack I put on this truck. I think I'll add some air bags to keep it from swaying as much. I did get the step bumper from Leon with it and am trying to come up with a way I can slide it in and out when I remove the camper. Any how, here are more pics of the camper. Don't laugh at our redneck A/C. It works and it was cheap.

It'll be cool to have that hooked up and functional. |
Re: "The Huntsman"
Well Mathew and my brother finally got the camper off the poor ole Dodge half ton.

Re: "The Huntsman"
My Huntsman came originally with the graphics painted turquoise and the original owner painted them Ochre to match the truck. He was a real stickler for detail.
Will you take a close up of the Huntsman logo in letters made of log? I always thought that was so cool. The emblem on the back is cool, too. I remember Topeka,KS but not sure of the other plant location. Was it Anaheim,CA? |
Re: "The Huntsman"
I'm not sure of the plant but can check mine. I'll snap a pic of the logo soon. Yes, I agree the logo is pretty awesome.

Re: "The Huntsman"
I just found this Thread and I'd like to say WOW,
My grandmother was co-owner of the Huntsman inc company. Her and her husband ran this company for many years in Chetopa ks. She has since passed away. Btw her name was Dottie Coons. you can google that as well. But i'm really glad to see that all they did in the past still lives on..And no I dont have any of the old books or paper work on any of these campers. Just wanted to join and say wow what a privilege to have been a small part of this company an to have seen the plant were these were built. |

some of those old campers came with an extendable rear bumper for campers
here is a not so good pic but if it would help I could take pictures of it now as it is off my truck. Might put a want to buy on parts board as there may be a few of these around. |
