1970 c10 - a fresh start

3 Attachment(s)
Here is my 1970 c10.

My dad has this truck since 1980. Its been a big part of my life.
He decided to sell it and i couldnt let him do it.
So i sold my 1986 bagged c10 to pay some bills and get a start on the 70.

I have a new hei distributor, alternator, vlave covers, booster/master cylinder and all parts to rebuild the drum brakes.

I am not sure if the gauge cluster works, i plan to replace it but need advice on the lmc cluster with tach or is the dakota digital a better piece?
Is the lmc tilt column good or is there a better column for the money?

Also, whats the most economical way to rebuild the doors? (felts, rubber, etc)

I plan to use this as a daily driver. I need some friendly advice on where to start and how to spend the 3000 i have wisely.

What is the thread on the lug nuts? Looking to order some bullet style lug nuts and center caps. Any suggestions on a vendor?

Cool truck to start with.
Lug nuts for 6-lug trucks is 7/16-RH.

Stay away from LMC.
There are much better places to buy parts from.
They have cool catelogs,... but the quality is poor in my opinion.
Look at Classic Parts of America, Brothers Truck Parts, Classic Heartbeat, GMCPauls, and any of the board supporting vendors.
www.earlyclassic.com is also a great place to by stuff for these trucks.

Porterbuilt Fabrication is the BEST suspension source. Period.
(my opinion)

Looks like a nice truck and the bagged C10 was very nice! Do you plan to bag this one?

What's your theme going to be? Old school, shop truck, stock looking, custom?

The gauges would be determined by that IMHO...but either one is overpriced. I can rebuild a super nice original set or put a new tach in a dash that looks brand new for 400-450. The LMC ones are like 6-700.

Lolife99 pointed out a bunch of the best vendors to order parts from. Avoid patch panels with blue or red labels...look for goodmark or triplus/keyparts.

Re: 1970 c10 - a fresh start

I have always wanted to go original looking and bagged, but the flat black with wide whites is tempting. It will be lowered for now and bagged later on down the line. I have always liked the digital dash, but my tastes are running more to stock apperance. I just want the best piece at the best price. Basically going for reliability since it will be a daily for the foreseable future.
