Dying Interior panels
 

My 70 Suburban project has white door and trim panels. They are in pretty good shape without tears but they are stained from 40 years of working, hauling, sunlight, and likely sitting in someones back yard for quite a while. I am trying to keep this on a super low budget so I would like to salvage what I have.

I have tried interior dyes in the past on an El Camino project that I had about 15 years ago. It didn't turn out that great. I'm sure that paint/dye tech has changed for the better. Does anyone have and suggestions, tips, tricks? I dont want to ruin what I have and I want it to turn out better than the last time I tried it.

This video should be helpful, this is how I did mine, and used the Duplicolor adhesion promotor and vinyl paint.

I used the Dupont system on some plastic and it worked perfect. Pieces looked better than factory. They also offer different levels from shiney to flat.

i used the duplicolor vinyl paints with the promoter and it works pretty good. what i found works best is too make sure the parts are absolutly positively clean
and wiped down with a wax and grease remover(carefull with this stuff test a small area first) and use very very light coats of each product

I must say though even though it doesnt look bad some of the stuff I did still looked "painted"

my kid did this too his bench seat turned it from red too black and after a few years its holding up quite well

the whole trick for dying interior stuff is to clean clean clean as they tend to have residue from crap like amorall that screws things up

a good adhesion promoter is money well spent
