how do I remove without screwing up??

hello,
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section....wasn't sure where to post at.

I'm going to be switching out gas tanks. I need to see what's the easiest way
to remove the rubber ring around the fill neck? without tearing it up...

Also then what's the easiest way to reinstall the ring?

thanks,
Betty

Inside the cab, the metal filler neck will have a small gas hose rubber section between that and the gas tank. The rubber should have a hose clamp on each end. Unscrew those hose clamps and then just work the metal filler neck out of the grommet. This may be very difficult if it has been on there for 50 years due to shrinkage and whatnot. May even have to cut the gas hose. Might try to spray some silicon lube around the filler neck between it and the grommet.

i think he is talking about the one on the cab 67-72 acts like a washer between the neck and the cab .....if so... if you cant pry it up they get real hard and dry rotted then carefully cut it from the neck out make a couple of slits and work it off,,,, then the new one is pliable you just need to work it in be patient

Harbor Freight sells some yellow body panel removal tools. I used them to get my new neck seal installed and they worked well. The yellow ones are more rigid than the blue ones, just FYI. The tools may help you get the old seal out.
