My '68 CST/Custom Camper has the optional 8.25 x 16.5 wheels on it and while they are not real common I wouldn't necessarily call them "Rare". They have the metal spring clips for the small hub caps. There was also a 9.25 x 16.5 but I don't know what they came on...

If you have split rims there are not very many people that want those any more. It's kind of hard to find any shops to work on them because they are dangerous to work on if you don't have the proper equipment.

here's a pic of split rims on the k20. the term "camper wheels" is a mis-nomer - the wheels weren't specific to campers. Most camper trucks were c20s and the standard wheel was the 16.5 rim (which does have a different bead profile than 16s, 15s, etc).

Love that truck. Did a double take on the driver. Looks like my uncle Roy...all he needs is a big ol' ceegar! Too cool.

The widest wheel available was 8.25 x 16.5. The aftermarket wheels were 9.75 x 16.5.

IMO, the 67-68 16.5" 8 lug "clip type" one piece camper type wheels are very hard to find. Very few 67-68 Chevy or GMC pickups on this site will be seen with them. For those into authenticity, these one piece wheels have the clips to attach the correct 67 or 68 3/4 ton hubcap on a 67 or 68 3/4 ton pickup. THis photo shows the 8.25" wide version

I don't recall split rims below 20", but I could be wrong. In any event, I've changed tires and tubes on split rims, and you better have them in a cage when you air them up, because if you do it wrong, the ring can separate and cut your head off. I've seen the training video. :barf:

I'm considering looking for different wheels with more available tires than the 9.50X16.5s I have now. I'm concerned about wheel strength. Summit carries nothing for my truck. I don't want those 8-spoke black or white wheels, either. Don't know what Ima do, yet.

These are the 16.5 x 8.25
Yes, they were hard to find. Just blasted and painted them, and re chromed and painted the caps. I REALLY love this look, and I am surprised at how many people notice them.

Yep, the General made great looking trucks straight off the line. An old worn paint turned to some ugly shade crapped out truck and put it back to original glory and you'll have a looker that stands up to any flavor of the week custom.

The 16" rims were split rim with tires available to suit Custom Camper requirements.

Summit sells Wheel Vintiques in 8-lug and 16" diameter. I believe they offer 17" as well. You can get the look of the clincher 16.5 with a modern safety bead in a size with a full variety of tire choices.

I posted a thread asking this question, and for me, it appears that Firestone is the only player in a size like mine (also 9.50X16.5).

Guess I looked at it the wrong way. I did not see 16.5 at all. Ima check again. But I'd really rather just keep the wheels stock if possible.

Firestone makes em as mentioned above - and check out Specialty Tire of America (STA) they have them also - but they are a 4x4 lug pattern for the most part. I'd also check out Nebraska Tire, they have some as well.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but what do you think these are off of? I purchased these from a member and I'm just curious. 15" wheels that measure 10" wide. They don't look like they were widened either but I'm not sure.

For the record, width is measured inside-bead-to-bead. :)

Just for reference as far as I know these are original 16.5" split rims on a 67 GMC.
