"Project" 1970 K10 Step Side
2 Attachment(s)
Hello all.
I recently purchased a 1970 K10. Ive been wanting one of these trucks for a very long time and I finally found a promising ad on craigslist about an hour from home. After going look at it, I had to have it. It’s a surprisingly solid truck that had a recent paint job, but wasn’t all put back together. It ran decent, but due to the fact it didn’t have any brake lines on it, I was unable to test drive it. We struck a deal and I brought it home. Its a factory SWB, 4X4, 350, 4 speed, NP 205 truck. I have a ton of plans for the truck and I hope to get some advice and pointers along the way. Here are the pics from the po's house where I looked at it. http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385260835 http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385260835 |

I took it home and immediately began cleaning it out to get started on the repaint and found something pretty cool.
A picture of the truck from im guessing the early to mid 90's wearing its original paint colors. Was a nice looking truck.http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385261591 |

Re: "Project" 1970 K10 Step Side
Thanks guys.
I thought i might give everyone a little info on the planned build. Ive always been a big fan of military vehicles. And Ive always wanted a military themed classic 4x4. So the first part of the project was to get it all stripped down and trailer it 600 miles to Memphis, TN. I worked in Memphis for a number of years and built some really good relationships with other shop owners, painters, etc. So a friend of mine who owns a body shop agreed to repair some of the previous bodywork and do an all over paint job for me. I chose a PPG paint that they call grey beige. Its basically desert tan in a matte finish. He is nearly finished with it and i should be picking it up on Dec 7. Now mind you im not building a show truck, so i told him not to really spend too much time making the body perfect. I plan on using this truck and i dont want to be sick to my stomach every time it gets a scratch. The rest of the plan for te truck goes like this: 1 ton axles with discs and crossover steering 8" lift from Off Road Design A lot of other ORD parts Carbureted 6.0 swap keeping the sm465/NP205 Thats a broad overview of what i have planned, there will be a lot more as the build progresses. I have a few more pics to post as soon as i figure out the hosting thing. Trying to use Flikr. Please be patient with me on the build, i work offshore and that doesnt give me a lot of time to work on the truck. But i will post updates and pics as often as i can.... |

After reading a few of the build threads on here, I realized it may seem like Im doing mine a little backwards.
The reason I chose to have it painted first is because my painter had room for it, and I was about to be gone overseas for work for a couple months. Seemed like a good time to have him knock out the color change. So after he got started, he was able to send me a few progress pics here and there. http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385340053http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385340053http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385340053http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385340053http://http://67-72chevytrucks.com/v...1&d=1385340053 Sorry for the images being sideways. still don't have the picture uploading thing figured out. |
