Blew up the big block

well 11.5/1 compression and crappy quality premium petro canada fuel don't mix. When I tore the motor apart the piston in the #8 cylinder had a chunk taken out of it and at leats 2 piston rings are shattered, but luckily no other damage. In the past 8 years I have had that motor apart 7 times. Always stupid things like blown head gasket, broken con rod, bent push rod stuff like that. Just the romance of an old pickup I guess

Sorry to hear that Hooter. Is the bore smooth? Gas sure sucks these days. I've had good luck with homemade octane booster. The store brands are too expensive.

I have had the same problems in the past. A friend of mine turned me on to an additive of tetraethyl lead. It relly has helped as far as performance and pre-detonation. you can check it out at batterystuff.com. As far as I am concerned the only way to effectively raise octane and treat my valves right is with lead.

Yikes, don't get caught!

FRENCHBLUE72 08-09-2003 06:32 PM

Homemade huh ????

neonlarry 08-09-2003 11:14 PM

Check out these octane boosters.

hanssolo 08-10-2003 03:23 AM

neonlarrys got it there! Stuff like that. The same chemicals at Home Depot are used in the store brands, except at 300% less cost. Except I use Marvel Mystery Oil for a lubricant. Its great for the valves as well.
