Vent window/Door panel area screw
1 Attachment(s)
Whats the purpose of the screw that goes on the door under the vent window? It does'nt seem to go through the vent window. Is it just for support of the vent window and for it to rest on? I was having trouble inserting the plastic deal flush and looks like the inner channel is bent. Heres a picture of the screw and plastic im talking about for sample (not mine).

Re: Vent window/Door panel area screw
It squeezes the inner and outer door panels tight against the vent window to seal out water, i think....
But, thats a joke, since most of the tops leak above that location at the w/s post and top seal |

They aren't on my 69 but my 70 and 72 have them but 72 is different I believe.

Dunno about leaving them out, but these doors have extra reinforcement in other locations that pick up doors do not. So, i would put them back, it would suck if you got stress cracks on a newly painted truck. I think they are there for rigidity. But, i m not an engineer from GM, so what i say doesn t matter:lol: |
Re: Vent window/Door panel area screw
I thought the reinforcing screw was '72 only? The metal door panel makes this look like not a '72? Is it a '71?
Both of my '72 Jimmy's have the ferrule. My '72 parts Blazer had the ferrule. I've never seen one that looked like that. My 70 GMC big block truck and the 69 Chevy I currently have neither have or had the screw of either style. |
Re: Vent window/Door panel area screw
I believe blazer only 69-71 the indent and screw was 72 specific truck and blazer

OK, now you opened a can of worms.....

Re: Vent window/Door panel area screw
My 71 CST has them as well. If you remove the screw there is a gap near the wing.

My 71 has steel, it's a base model. My 70 is a cst and has deluxe vinyl covered steel !! My 72's have all been 72 only ...plastic.

LOL yea well my top came of once and I sold it. It was in pretty sad shape, good hatch though. But after one too may trips with a canoe or row boat or whatever they had on the roof the sag was pretty terrible, the roll bar was actually holding the roof up. All that is gone now and will be doing a halftop (like yours, matter of fact I think yours came from Boneyard too, no?). I'm planning on doing an early Shelby Mustang convertible style bar to mount the shoulder belts to, we'll see how that goes. |

Re: Vent window/Door panel area screw
I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have a picture from inside the door of what the screw goes into? I am working on a blazer that appears to have truck doors. I am wondering if and how to potential add these screws for additional support.

Re: Vent window/Door panel area screw
Zoom in on the picture in post #14 you will see the plastic furrel. One of the vendors is working on repops with screws.

There a metal tab with a hole in it. There's a clip that fits over this tab, and the screw goes into it. |
