Help Quick Please.. Fire

I am posting this here cuz ya'll are more active than the other boards. I am trying to get my 87 K30 out on the fire here in Sisters Oregon. My Speedo doesn't work. I haven't look at it yet, but I figured someone out there probably has a good idea of the most common speedo failure. It is going into a 205 t-case. I am running into town for a bit, so I won't answer right back

Thanks in advance

one of three things the gear in the tranny/transfer case the cable itself or the speedo is shot pull it off at the speedo and see if it spins if not keep tracing back

OK,
I went for the easy access and found that the cable looks brand new, but It is really hard to turn at the tcase end. How much effort should it take to spin the cable? Should it just roll in my fingers?
I am gonna go pull the dash end off, be right back

Hmm.
at the tcase end there is a little speed changer gear box. It is not meshing up with the gear that must be driven by a radial gear on the output shaft. I need to replace both the gear and the little gear box. I have 3 other 205 t-cases. Are the gears all the same, or are they different for different rear ends?

I also have a parts truck, are there different speedos, or all of of them the same?

Thank again

The cable should resist spinning somewhat, but you should be able to turn it by hand. Or chuck it into a VSR drill and run it in reverse; the speedometer should work.

My cable goes directly into the t-case, so I think the box you see is an adapter to correct the speedo reading (for different gears). Compare input rotation to output rotation to see if they are the same on your other adapters.

Good luck with the fire! :(

Got it.
I pulled a driver out of a 72 and it fit. I chunked the little gear box as it was only a 2% change. My tires are off more than that.

Thanks to all
