Help...a little confused

I bought my '71 Sub thinking it was a K10-1/2 ton model. The SPID shows the model as KE10906 and the Vin starts with KE. Does this mean it is actually a K20-3/4 ton version? And only 256 were produced with barn doors?
What else could I look at to verify that it is a K20?

The model number 10906 defines it as a 1/2 ton Suburban.

A 3/4 ton would be a 20906 model number.

The K in the VIN indicates 4wd (regardless of series); the E indicates V8 engine.

Thanks Keith, weird, this site:
http://outintheshop.com/prodnum.html

lists the 1/2 ton as KS and the 3/4 ton as KE. They must be wrong or I'm not getting there data.

Yes - you are confusing the VIN coding and the model code.

They are two separate entities and the structure and meaning are different. Just an unfortunate coincidence that they are so similar in this instance.

Here's the model info from my 1967 service manual. The '71 info will be similar.
