I have installed a new stereo and amp in my truck and have some engine whine. I have checked and seems my grounds are all good. I bought a cheap set of the inline filters between my rca jacks and the amp from amazon to try and it didn't seem to help however they were real cheap.
I know my rca cables were not the most expensive and I have them taped along the floor so maybe it is coming from there. What might be a good fix?
I might be able to pull new cables in but would rather not if I can get by with another fix.

Do you have a CD ignition? If you do, that will cause the bulk of your interference.

No I am running a 5.3 gen 3 motor with all the stock computer and coils. I did however change the plug wires to msd ones. I do have wires running everywhere... lol I have my computer in the back of the cab. My amp is under the seat.

Is the amp grounded good. Did you twirl the RCA cables up as you ran them?
Where are you picking up the hot wire from for the radio and amp?

Un plug the amp and see if it's still there. Most times it's the radio but the amps make it worse. Unplug amp and turn radio up and see if it's there if so look for another source for the hot wire and check the radio ground wire.:chevy:

Thanks Andy, the amp is grounded good, I didn't twirl the RCA cables. They may have had some twist to them but I know they are not expensive ones.
Hot wire coming directly from the battery for the amps but an internal source for the head unit. I will recheck the ground on the radio since it is tucked inside it may not be as good as the amp.
I had unplugged the RCA cables and didn't notice the sound but of course there is nothing going into the amp. I can unhook the amp but I think the results will be the same.

I will also add the noise is the same volume regardless of how much the stereo is turned up. At low volume you can really hear it teh louder it is turned up the music will "drowned" it out.

Are you sure the noise isn't coming from your source? I'd check the deck power and ground, and I'd also check that you don't have any major changes in wire sizing in any of the runs. Going from something like a 2ga down to a 12ga on the same run can cause ground loop.

did you use ac delco iridium spark plugs? the cheapie plugs will cause engine noise

I chased something similar in my trans am. I bought new rca wires for amp,I separated speaker wires from power source wires. Finally I found a noise suppressor at the local junk yard that was attached to a old pioneer tape deck and spliced that in. That stopped the whine in my system. I know people say a noise suppressor is just a band aid for the problem but it made me happy that the whine noise was gone.

Thanks guys, my last couple nights got busy so this did not get looked at. As far as plugs I don't remember what I put in there. I don't know that I bought the iridium plugs as I know they are expensive. I had changed a heat range when I was running nitrous.
I do have some cheapy noise suppressors but they didn't seem to to much. I will check my wires and maybe run another line to my head unit to make sure it is all good. My amps are wired direct and grounded good so yes I suspect it may be in the head unit.

Noise can often be caused by something really simple. Since you have checked your grounds, double check the gain setting on your amps. If they are too sensitive, they will create a lot of noise. Make sure they are set properly.

Noise filters are patches and do not address the root cause.
