Ard start when engine hot
 
In the morning my 2000 7.4 dully starts on the first turn of the switch after a drive an truck gets up to temp you have to crank it a long time acts like a flooded engine what is the problem hard start all day long after sitting quick start in morning cold thanks for help with this problem

Now to work on the hard start problem when the truck is warm takes aboult 10 seconds of cranking to get it fired up 7.4 454 has 201300 miles i change oil every 2500 miles engine never uses a bit of oil between changes no smoke at tail pipe so how many miles will these engine last any high mile guys out there

Your truck is a gmt400(88-98 style). You'd have better luck in the 88-98 section


Most likely you have a leaking fuel pressure regulator or leaking injectors. Very common problem on the Vortec 454.


Motors can fail at 10,000 or 500,000. All depends on maintenance and the deck you're dealt.

true, also check your spark when hot. I had a truck some years back that did the same thing but turned out the coil was getting hot and was causing a voltage drop, causing hard start, like it was flooded or like it was out of time. but sounds like fuel pressure regulator.
