Wiring diagram for electric wiper motor in 58 Apache

Hello All, been a while since I posted, I hope you are all well. Spent the past year and approx 1000 + hours restoring the 58 Stepside. COnverted to big back window, the whole works. WIll be posting pics shortly.

At this time, Im wondering if anyone can please post the wiring diagram for the wiper motor. Seems mine came with an electric motor and I removed it and want to see if it has any life in it. Any help would be most appreciated.

Kind regards,
MArk

Brown wire is 12v power. Other goes to the dash switch closes the ground circuit to energize the motor.

Thanks Orrie. Do you have a schematic of how the wiper motor attaches to the wiper arms? I need to reattach the mechanisms to the motor so I need to see what kind of grommets retainers etc. I need for that. Thank you very much in advance for any information

hey orrie, you should get some advice on posting pics from some of the other guys on here whose pics are always upside down. then the pics would be right side up, haha.
good layout, i am sure it will help.

Does not have to do with photo orientation, that was the best way the motor sat on the work bench! I labeled them for someone before because of confusion about orientation in the cab. With my old phone (Samsung) I always had to rotate the photos to post them here, but they were fine right off the phone for CL. With new phone (ZTE) they always show up right side up.

Orrie thanks for the pics. The wiper motor in my 58 looks different, the attachments for the wiper linkages are on the top and bottom of the motor, I will post pics

Re: Wiring diagram for electric wiper motor in 58 Apache

most pre-1980 electric wipers wire the same, power to the motor and ground thru the switch
the reason for this is the park function of the wipers
if you switch the power the wipers will stop where ever they are when the power is turned off
by switching the ground the internal cam switch keeps the motor on to the park area

the stock 2 speed electric wiper motor that orrieg posted has the switch on the motor and uses the same cable operator as the vacuum wipers
if your switch is a non-oem wired switch it will wire the same way; power to the motor and switched ground

Thanks Ogre. do you have any insights as to all the parts I'll need to connect the transmission arms to the motor itself? I think there are some grommets and retainers that I need and I have no idea what they are

I think most GM were the same around this time. If you look at my motor pic you will see there are two round clips held together with a spring, the go in a slot on the shaft. The arms themselve have grommets, I think they are brass in rubber? look on this page, all are reproduced.

Thanks Orrie but as I said my motor is different in that the connections for the transmission arms are not on the same plane like yours. With mine, the connections are on the top and bottom of the motor. See pic. So that one spring loaded retainer you have seems like it won't work for me.

Probably had a C-clip to hold it in place. I did an image search for wiper lever clips and could not come up with anything. Might also be some sort of cupped clip with an elongated hole that slides and snaps into place over the shaft groove. Snap ring would be too skinny.

The 58 and 59 electric motor use a brass bushing surrounded by a rubber bushing. Same as the ones used on a 58 Impala. They are available in repo. Not sure if anyone is making the clip retainer which is flat with a slot to fit in the groove that you see in the shaft. The pictures posted earlier are from a 55-57 electric setup. They did used a brown wire that went to the porcelain resister on the firewall. The power wire for 58-59 that you have actually came right out of the harness under the dash. I beleive there was a video on you tube showing how to test this motor. Here is a picture of the busings.

Thinking about it I may have pulled the wiper motor from a earlier truck, my 59 came with vacuum. I got mine from a power company truck, they always ordered the electric wiper option.

FAM lists RPO 320 as electric windshield wiper starting in 55.2 with a cable switch and power off of the resistor on firewall.
