Parking brake spreader bar spring?
 

Where could I round up this oval spring. Mine was broken and cause the rear shoes to burn up.
Put it together with out the spring and about ruined a new drum and shoes.


The parts store spring kit didn't include said spring.

Pulled the spreader bar out and things seem to be operating normal again.

For a 68 ish C-20 had to source different years of c-20 to get drums and wheel cylinders.

Edit: Never mind, yours has the loop. Mine didn't seem to, but it was pretty busted up.

I just got these. They seem to fit ok and they don't
have that extra little loop. Anybody that carries raybestos should have them. Make model and year searches didn't get me very far.

If the brake is not working correctly with the bar in place your parking brake system is sticking or adjusted way too tight. Make sure the transfer bar is properly seated on the parking brake lever (the part that attaches to the rear shoe & has the parking brake cable attached at one end) The parking brake lever should rest almost against the back of the shoe when the parking brake is not applied. The most common problem is the cable is sticking. You should be able to grab the inner cable (under the truck where the two cables come together) & pull on it, the cable should move out a little then return when you let go. If it does not, it is sticking/stuck. I have tried with limited success to lube stuck cables. The best solution is new cables.

Parking brake cables seemed like they where free and moving nicely, was kind of snug ish.
The spring was broken into 3 pieces.

Pulled the spreader bar out altogether and have good brakes.

Ordered said spring and pull it apart next weekend again.

Should've gone disc brakes the 1st go
