ACC Carpet 1954

I bought a new Auto Custom Carpet from National Parts Depot. I bought the full floor carpet, because I have newer seats in the truck and have removed the welded in seat frame. When I put the carpet in in seemed to not fit correctly. When I had the taper of the carpet fitting with the taper of the cab, it was around 3"-4" short by the fuel tank. When I pulled the carpet back to the fuel tank lower brace, the carpet was 1 1/2" +- to narrow on both side of the floor. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to buy the carpet that is for a removed tank even though my tank is still in the cab. Any help would be great.

I bought the full floor also, just arrived yesterday. I'll see how it goes when I get around to installing mine.

Inquiring minds want to know... (ACC is the best in the biz).

Did you buy the full floor carpet or the full floor carpet without tank? The lady at ACC says the carpet without tank is longer to cover the area where the tank used to be. I called ACC and was surprised when they told me they didn't have a tech department I could speak with.

It'll be awhile before I get it in but I'll keep you posted. What started out as a simple swap has morphed into a lot more work, swapping from floor to column shift, filling holes in the firewall, rewiring and so on...

Full floor, no tank.

Finally got around to installing the carpet and its a big disappointment. It's too short & leaves part of the firewall padding exposed. I would have come out buying some from Lowes or Home Depot!

Your carpet was ACC? Where did you get it? This is really a disappointment for me to hear (although not as much of a disappointment as it is for you, I am sure). Have you called the manufacturer? How did they treat you?

I bought the ACC carpet (Daytona weave) for my '55/2 but I bought it in bulk since I have a custom console.

I bought mine from National Parts Depot. I did call them and they did not have any answers other than to return the carpet. I also called ACC so i could speak with the tech department, however they do not have a tech department according to the person I spoke with. I ended up using the carpet and working around the carpets deficiencies to make it look as good as possible. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

I saw that in your initial post, 67Z. Mobileortho apparently has the a similar problem, and I'd like to get his details. I've used ACC in two Corvettes and a GTO with no problems. I'll be calling them even though it's not my truck this time. I'm really surprised. I'm also wondering if National has a secondary supplier, but they online catalog shows only ACC.

My carpet came in a ACC box with NPD paperwork attached. I feel confident it is ACC carpet.

Found my receipt and realized it came from Stock Interiors. I did call them and they asked me to send a picture. Excuse the dust & wires, it’s a work in progress.

This was their response:

“Hello Robert Clayborn,

It appears that the carpet is correct. There should be a rubber firewall insulator pad that would cover the exposed area. If you no longer have this piece we do offer extra yardage in the same color.

Thank you for your patience and your business!

Sincerely,
Tabatha
Stock Interiors”

I hate to give you the bad news, but I think they're right. If I were you I'd buy a 1/2 yard or full yard of carpet (whatever they'll sell you), drop it above and behind the carpet you already have, and drive it.

Before I open the ACC boxes what series Corvettes did you carpet?
I'm doing a C 1

I did a '62 (C1) and a '64 (C2). Both went on to be NCRS Duntov cars. Never a point deducted for carpets through Chapter, Regional or National judging.

Below is how much to narrow the carpet was on both side of the cab floor. Needless to say I was disappointed with the fitment.

This is after I made some sill plates to cover the edges.

67z28, I guess I don't understand why you installed that carpet. I would have been on the phone, but hey, that's just me... -Bob

I did call National Parts and ACC and neither had any kind of answer. Sometimes it's just easier to fix the problem.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm still in shock that ACC would put out a product that fit so poorly.
