Column gear shifter question....

Is there any difference between the gear shifter on a tilt column and one on a non-tilt column? I think they're shorter which is what I'm looking for. In all the searches I've done, all that comes up are the differences of the steering columns themselves but nothing about if the gear shifters are different. I have a smaller diameter steering wheel than stock and the gear shifter sticks pretty far out there. Was wanting to put a shorter one one there for a more proportional look and if it's just a matter of swapping one in from a tilt column, that would be great. Thanks!
