Need a guy who refinishes aluminum trim bands on square bodies

I used to have contact info for a guy who takes these, strips off the old anodized finish, makes repairs, and reanodizes them and clear coats them.

Can't find it now.

It was pretty expensive but I think I've got enough interest in my 77 Cheyenne to call him up to get a quote.

Anyone with a source for this work?

I had the rear cab molding, cab corners, corner emblems, and rear quarter wrap around moldings stripped, small repairs, and reanodized in 2015 from a company called The Finishing Touch, Inc, Chicago. Every piece turned out like brand new. But the job is not cheap, so be prepared if you really want to have it done right.
I can show you pictures if you like. Let me know

That's what this guy does.

By all means, post up the pics! Before and after would be great.

Wow that looks really great . I was thinking of doing a aluminum wrap on my tailgate band to how it might look.

Actually he does make some repairs. You might call him. Google the info I provided in post 2. He always answers the phone every time I call him.

That looks amazing. How much did that cost, and did he do anything else like the tailgate pieces?

I used a nice couple in tx, that's what they do, restore chrome trim, there very popular among the Camaro/chevelle crowd. They polish it to a super shine, and hammer out any dings. Older coupe, and very friendly. They do an amazing job. Highly recommend them:metal:

To get the dings out, or at the least, make them not stand out like a sore thumb you'll need to get a dent removal kit. I picked up some off eBay. Then it's polish polish polish. I used Brasso. And you'll want to polish with the grain.

, Did you have to seal it with a clear coat or some other thing to keep the oxidation from coming back?

No clear coat was used. After I polished and got the trim looking the way I wanted it, I know this is going to sound weird, but I wiped it down with Skin So Soft oil. It still looks like it did, the day I polished it. And that was 2 or 3 yrs ago. Now granted, my truck does stays in the garage.

How often do you retreat it with the skin so soft or anything thing else?

I only did it the one time. But the nice thing about using the Skin So Soft, it's not going to hurt anything. Some people use WD-40, it would give the same result.

Not trying to go off topic, but how do these mount on the cab?

TKCR 12-14-2017 08:59 PM

Re: Need a guy who refinishes aluminum trim bands on square bodies

The corners have a stud on the back that get a speed nut. There would be a hole in the cab, then you put the speed nut on from inside the cab. Take the rear corner speaker off and you have to put your hand up the space behind the speaker.
The long rear trim slides unto clips that are attached to t-studs that are welded on the cab. I'll see if I can finds pics

So on the long trim, LMC has the clips, and it appears that you just use a screw to attach to the rear of the cab. I'm pretty sure that when I had mine off, the clips were on T-studs. This is probably the way it came from the factory, but if you wanted to add the trim, you would use screws.

I just checked and they didn't remove the trim when the previous owner painted the truck. I'm not sure I want to do the project now since after the trim is straightened it might show where they masked it off.

I'll look at it again tomorrow. Sure was looking forward to some bright new trim.

That sucks, but if I remember right, they did the same with my truck. They did an excellent job of masking off, but I remember having just a few little spots of overspray on the edges of the trim. And of course I got that all cleaned off too.
Well if you don't take it off, of course then you can't tap your little dings out. But that doesn't mean you still can't polish it up. Might not be as easy, having to climb in the back of the truck. But I would still give it a try.
