BFG All Terrain
So these are my usual tire of choice for 33 x12.5 and I'm close to pulling the trigger on a set. Just making sure that nothing better in an all around good tire has popped up I don't know about.

I was like you, I looked and did a lot of research. I wanted something that looked aggressive but didn't want the noise of a mud tire. So some companies are starting to make what they call a hybrid tire. It has the mud lugs on the outside of tire and all terrain in the middle. They all say they don't make any more noise then a all terrain tire but have the ability to do more of the off road stuff. I bought a set of Toyo RT open country for my 72 k10. They are 35c12.50r18 on a 10in wide rim and Fuel Hostage rims.I haven't had them on the road yet but boy I love the looks.

Re: BFG All Terrain
I am running a quiet and smooth tire that I like better off road, Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I found a better deal on those than the Coopers I have been buying. I think Cooper is the best tire company at the moment. They offer 5 options in A/T where BFG offers 2. Go to Discount Tire Direct and check them out. A good site to do comparisons

Re: BFG All Terrain
Ill check the tires mentioned out.
I like the look, ride, and all around qualities of the All Terrain's. I don't care for the other styles offered by BFG. I just figured it would be smart of me to check out other choices that might be out there. |
Re: BFG All Terrain
I had many BFG’s and always had good luck with them. I got a good deal on General Grabbers and was impressed with them. Duratracs are a great tire, just not a great price lol. Haven’t used them yet, but again got a good deal on Goodyear authority which is a Wally World brand, heard they are a decent tire....

Re: BFG All Terrain
I had duratracs on my truck ..now I have nitto ridge grapplers...the duratracs lasted 75k...I don't think the grapplers will last that long and theyre getting noisy...im going back to duratracs on my next set....ive run the bfgs on previous trucks and got good life from them and they were descent offroad , but they got extremely noisy when they got down to 25% life....

Re: BFG All Terrain
I've had great luck with the cooper at-3, i've had them on most of my trucks, and on my work van, they are quiet, long lasting, and cheap, so speaking from experience that is all I can personally recommend
I'm going to need to purchase new rubber for my suburban soon as was thinking about going with the duratracs, but was also leaning to the cooper discover st. I saw a post recently about skinny tires on the older trucks and really liked the skinny classic look with the coopers. |

Here is 285/75-16 on 8" wheels (4" lift). I think I went with these rather than Coopers because I felt the tread looked closest to traditional, as well as being one of the best of it's kind in the mud. Meaning a good road manners tire.

Re: BFG All Terrain
also a fan of BF's.
i'm in the market right now myself for some BF's to replace my bf m/t's i bought in '99- yup that's right, '99 before the m/t's i was running a set of bf a/t's which were on the truck for 8 yrs, put the m/t's on and gave the a/t's to my buddy who ran them for another 5 or 6 yrs i go off road quite a bit so i want the m/t's for traction. have only had 1 flat ever with BF's (bad bead) only downside, when they do get down, like mongo says to 25% or so, they are LOUD...louder than the 38's on my crewcab, loud enuff i have to turn up the radio on the freeway to hear it over the tires |

Re: BFG All Terrain
I really want the "look" of the all terrains if I end up switching. And I love the skinny look too, just not for what I'm tossing together this time.
I'll be checking out the suggestions that have been tossed out here so far. |
Re: BFG All Terrain
Certain trucks and certain situations tall n skinny are great. Me, I like fat tires lol. But for snow use tall n skinny works the best. Off road not so great, sometimes need the floatation to keep from sinking to the frame...

Re: BFG All Terrain
so I'm stuck in socal until retirement while my aging mom holds down the fort until we get there..
she mentioned the '86 3/4 ton 4x4 needed tires and was asking my opinion.. so naturally I suggested these, no need to get mom wrapped around the axle shopping for tires when these will be ideal for the farm truck's duties.. couple of days later she tells me they're on order and should be arriving friday.. bracing myself for shock on how much she spent..... drum roll please.. $155/ea at Sam's in Independence for LT235/85R16 AT/KO2  she found an -$80/ea sale and ordered instead of settling for something else in stock.. my mom rocks! :metal: |
