Used Gear Backlash Changes

Need some thoughts on this issue.

Pulled the rear end for Sloppy Jo and the old gears BL was at 15 thousands (checked multiple spots on the ring). They are original and show no bad wear on the teeth.

Should I replace them with new gears to get the BL in spec 6-10 thousands or will there issues using the used gears and resetting the BL?

Thoughts????

Re: Used Gear Backlash Changes

Tightening up the used gear set to a tighter backlash will change the pattern slightly, and also could make them noisy. If the gears look good, I would just change all the bearings and put it back together the way it is

Thank you. The carrier bearings and races looked very clean and no spots on them...Might replace everything and call it a day...

I'd get a new shim set and tighten the BL to .010 if it were mine.
