I'm not sure but I think the series of carrier and housing has to match? (3 series, 4 series) ?? Somebody chime in if I'm wrong.

And yeah, you have to have the lash set right and I have no idea how to do that.

Sorry I wasn't much help.

As a general rule the shim under the pinion bearing stays with the housing. It determines the pinion depth. You need a press and a bearing separator.

You'll need a new crush sleeve, an impact and a small dial or beam torque wrench to set the turning torque on the pinion.

You going to need a dial indicator with a selection of shims to set the backlash.

3 series is up to 3.42, 4 series on up, I installed ($400)eaton posi off amazon with my 307 rear end, the 4 series are little cheaper I think. They sent great instructions on how to shim carrier correct, and youtube videos, was pretty simple. take your time.

Correct if your changing ring and pinion, if only installing posi track you only need heat to swell carrier bears for install. Or run them down to machine shop have pressed on. I heated mine in oven couple hrs, drove on easy.

I try to do everything myself, but there are certain things like driveshafts, transmissions and rearends that I leave to the professionals. I'm not saying it can't be done in your garage, but it requires some special tools and some taking apart and putting together to get things perfect. And if it's not perfect, it comes apart and usually takes a lot of surrounding parts with it. I firmly believe that paying the money to have certain things done at a shop is worth the peace of mind in the long run. Not to mention any good shop will have a warranty with their work. Again, if you do it wrong, it's all on your dime.

Just my .02
