Flat glass supplier experiences
Hi folks.
I'll be needing flat glass for several upcoming projects. Just searching around for a supplier with great references. Prices vary quite a bit, this one has good looking prices ... http://www.bobsclassicautoglass.com/ where SandersReproGlass is quite a bit higher. Example: 39 Chevy Sedan Bobs $400 (9 pcs. offered as a kit) Sanders $640 (9 pcs. purchased individually, no kit offered) Who do you guys use ? Who do you steer away from ? Good, Bad and the Ugly. When a price looks too good to be true ..... you know. Thanks |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
I purchased my '59 Chevy truck glass and '55 Chevy Sedan glass from this business. Was happy with the customer service, price, quality and ease of shipment.

Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
A lot of guys use Auto city glass and seem to be happy with it.
We are lucky in that we have some local shops that cut flat glass and install it for a competitive price that aren't afraid of older rigs. |

I have 1 local that supplied the highest price quote yet. (even considering the shipping) |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
I got my 41 glass from autocity, nothing against the local shops but it was less than a third of the cost and came with rubber setting tape. it came with a sticker that said it was pink diamond glass from india? it fit perfectly although the rubber tape did not fit well because I had welded on my windshield frame so I used urethane.
for my 49 I used LMC, no issues there either. for your older stuff a local shop cutting patterns may be the only option. |

Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
OK, went on and placed an order with VintageGlass. Nice to speak with, good price and free shipping. See now they are in FL. Two weeks + transit time.
Hoping all goes well. Thanks folks. |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
what I ordered shipped from cal.
curved glass doesn't qualify for the free shipping...so my curved windshield had to ship freight...I think I was 140 from cal. to ala....all my other glass shipped free... it was packed well in a heavy cardboard box with a wood frame built around it my flat glass shipped bubble wrapped in a bubble bag... |

This is on my confirmation ... Vintage Glass may be contacted at: Address: 1901 NW 67 Place Ste. Q & R Gainesville, FL 32653 Phone: (888) 282-8789 Office, facility, both ... I didn't get the details. As long as it gets here intact (bubble bag ? ?) I'll be happy. Thanks again Greg. |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
Hah. But the timestamp on the confirmation message is Pacific time. 3 hrs. behind us here in the east. Maybe that's just the money processor. Ya never know these days.
How long did it take to get yours from the day you ordered the flat stuff Greg ? |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
it was about a week...I ordered late in the week so that counts the weekend as well

Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
Sometimes it depends on if what you buy takes the direct route or the scenic route between the seller and your doorstep.
I order parts from a place back east for my ot car quite a bit and they ship the same day they get the order but the package makes about ten stops before it gets on the truck that goes straight from Pa to Oregon. The last package made it to portland but got on a truck to Hermiston and then back to Pasco and then Yakima taking an extra day over if it had come direct from Portland to Yakima as it usually does. I use to pull out of the driveway just as the UPS and Fed Ex trucks from Portland to Yakima went by my driveway. If I was out in the driveway and they went by I was exactly on time for what I wanted to be. A lot of the time my order went by the house then and got back to the house at about 5:30. |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
Unbelievable ....
What a fiasco. Vintage Glass "Balls" is definitely not recommended by us. (they got the name right) Very disappointing. Idiotically unreasonable to deal with. Back window has a ring of haze in the glass. Wing windows weren't cut anywhere near close enough to even go in the frames. Will need to get another rear window somewhere else. All done ....... thanks. :) |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
I'd still check with the local shops that have been in business for a long time. Especially if you have old glass for a pattern. Not the quickie replace your windshield guys but old full service glass shops.

Cost's a bit more, but it is local. Thanks Quote:
The guy down there is a real wingnut. |
Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
One of the local shops here will cut plate glass and send it off to be tempered. I have to have them do that with my side glass because of the chop and stretch.

Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
Bought mine here last year when I was at fall Carlisle. Ordered on Friday and had all flat glass by Wednesday of the following week. Looks like they now have free shipping.

Re: Flat glass supplier experiences
Mine is a later 57 model. I do remember seeing the earlier style glass at their booth. The set I bought has gray tint, fitment is good. They wrapped it so will it took me an hour just to get into it.
