Tahoe whining noise
My 2001 Tahoe has a high pitched whining noise that seems like it is coming from the front end. Jacked up each wheel and spun and one front bearing sounded rough. Changed front hub bearing assembly. Road test -- same noise. Changed other side. Still has noise. About 40 to 60 mph. Can shift to neutral and noise remains. Can turn off key and coast and still has noise. Any ideas??

Re: Tahoe whining noise
start by eliminating things... I know its work, but in order to find it do the following:
remove the front driveshaft. drive vehicle, noise? remove both front axles....most likely your noise will go away once you remove the axles....noise could be in the front differential, just guessing but once you start eliminating items you will find the problem GOOD LUCK !!!! |
Re: Tahoe whining noise
FOUND THE NOISE. Took it to a Chevrolet dealership where my buddy is the service manager. They put it up on a hoist and tested it running in 2WD and 4WD with no noises. Took it on a road test and heard the noise again. He concluded that something on the outside of the vehicle was causing the noise. At that moment the light came on!!! It's my BILLET grille that I had added. Came home and googled it, sure enough- another guy with Tahoe and same issue. Duct taped the loose ends and noise went away. I will be cutting some short 1/4 aluminum rods painted black and using epoxy to secure them across the loose ends on the back side. PROBLEM SOLVED.
