thanks for the response... think I'll throw the heads on the 350 for now and rebuild the 327 for Sears Point drags <evil grin>

my question now is, the 327 block has an "oil" cap next to where the distributor goes (yes, the REAR of the engine, on the opposite end from the water pump) and a shrouded something or other that sticks into the lifter valley from that cap... I haven't had time to take a good look at it yet, but the shroud itself is cylindrical, a little bigger in diameter than an ign coil and a little shorter and is made from sheetmetal. Any ideas as to what this is??? I'll try to get a pic soon, but don't hold your breath.

old style breather it had a tube that came off and went to pcv mounted on carb, earlier versions had a road draft tube

on a 327 thats your crankcase ventilaion..it goes from your crankcase(lifter valley) to your intake manifold. You can remove it and plug the hole with one of those rubber squeezey plugs...lol...dont u just love hi-tech answers. If you do that you will have to use breathers in the valve covers with a pvc valve

do I really wanna plug it, though? this would allow me to have clean valve covers (no holes) wouldn't it? I can get one of those intake maifolds that has the oil filler tube thingy instead...

any ideas on years the 327's had these?

I went to install an Edelbrock air gap manifold on my early 327 and it wouldn't fit because of the round baffle in the oil filter valley. How difficult would it had been to allow use of this baffle? Anyway, you can plug the hole in the back and use valve covers with breathers, or continue to use the blowby tube.
