Emblem Restore
So I saw this done on a squarebody emblem a couple of years ago and finally got around to trying it on mine. It worked much better than I thought. Should last a lot longer than paint.
I had a set of 66 badges from the Junkyard for wall art so I tried the process on them first. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/941/2...8512968d_h.jpg20180805_101846 by bjohnson388, on Flickr I cleaned it with steel wool first. Here is the resin I used. Bought it at Hobby Lobby. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/941/2...2c64bcbd_h.jpg20180805_102317 by bjohnson388, on Flickr You mix the two equal parts until there is not more swirls. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/936/4...1c9a30b4_h.jpg20180805_102629 by bjohnson388, on Flickr I originally was going to use ink from the sharpie pen. But I couldn't get it to release any ink and sense I already had the resin mixed I grab the spray paint I used on my wheels and used that instead. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/858/4...754b881f_h.jpg20180805_103152 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1833/...797bd482_h.jpg20180805_103005 by bjohnson388, on Flickr It self levels. So I make sure you have it on a level surface while it dries. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1832/...58fb71b1_h.jpg20180805_103611 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Cleaning my 64' emblems I notice one of them still had flashing from where it came off from plating. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/942/4...faa4b658_h.jpg20180805_105126 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/916/2...74e4a186_h.jpg20180805_113808 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/931/4...29f9f861_h.jpg20180805_113819 by bjohnson388, on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1773/...e44c8cdd_h.jpg20180805_113825 by bjohnson388, on Flickr Bret |

That looks fantastic. I will definitely give this a go for the badges on my '63.

Re: Emblem Restore
What is the resin again? Info?

Re: Emblem Restore
Did you put anything on the chrome area of emblem? Was steel wool all you used in cleaning?

Re: Emblem Restore
This is brilliant...I work with 2 part resin every day and never thought to do this...I will do it now though!
Here is a tip...after you put the resin on the part...hit it with a propane torch or a heat gun for just a few seconds. It will pop any air bubbles that are on the surface or hiding under. |
