Doug thorely headers
 

So I was wondering if doug thorely long tube will fit my 64. On their website it says automatic only. I have a tko600 5 speed. I'm assuming they say auto only is due to clutch linkage clearance. I have a hydraulic clutch installed so I'm wondering if they'll fit.

Talk to customer service at Thorley's, or at Jeg's or Summit. They should know.
W/o a Z-Bar you should have no interference, but what do I know? I don't have a 5-speed.

Ok that's kinda what I was thinking. I spoke with customer service at thorely and he couldn't say they would definitely fit or not and told me to check some forums

Circular logic.
You might check the Stovebolt truck forum. But I haven't been on there in years.
Is this for a V8? In your '64?
Long tubes generally don't fit lowered rigs, if that's your persuasion.

If your tko is mounted near the tailshaft the headers might fit. Automatics in that year where also.
Standard trannies had the bellhousing mounted to a big crossmember that would be in the way for full length headers.
That’s why the difference between auto and standard figment.

Oh ok, yeah the trans mount is towards the rear. The original bell housing fit so I used that but the truck was standard to begin with. It all makes sense now haha! Thanks!

So would an option be to remove that cross member in order to run long headers? One of the reasons I'm looking into thorley is I heard they sit up tight near the frame. Ive seen other long tube headers that hang down below the frame and I'm trying to avoid that

Removing the crossmember can be a royal pain in the butt!
You almost need to pull the motor and tranny out. It’s riveted into place.

Is your hydraulic clutch internal or external slave? If it is an external slave it will not fit. I Have a TKO 500 5 spd with an external hydraulic slave in mine and went through 4 sets of headers and finally got the speed engineering ram horns to fit.

Too many mounting points can be a bad thing. The engine and trans can get in a bind and something could break. If your trans has a mount and a crossmember at the rear, you do not need the bellhousing mounted to it's original crossmember. Additionally, with how those headers sound, not hanging below the frame, the bellhousing crossmember will be in the way.
