Re: What-is-it Pic Game
Well, the good news is that no one here correctly identified it. That's good news because it's a brachytherapy implant device. It's used for treating prostate cancer. The green base is sewn to the perineum, and then the needles (17 in my case) are inserted into the prostate. Then the large ends of the needles are connected to what's called a transfer device, which is a computerized machine with a long wire containing a radioactive iridium gamma ray source, which then moves the wire through the tubes until you've been blasted with enough gamma radiation to thoroughly cook your innards. After 5 hours they hook you up again, then pull the device out, and then you get to go home. I just had my last radiation therapy and they let me take a souvenir home, so I thought I'd share.

Re: What-is-it Pic Game
Well that does it, I am never going to the doctor again for fear I might end up with one of those stuck into a delicate part of my anatomy! :ack:

Re: What-is-it Pic Game
Yeah, it's not all that much fun. I won't be wearing my Levis for the next few days. But after months of hormone chemotherapy, six weeks of external radiation, and two brachytherapy sessions, I'm finally done. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see if the cancer is all gone.
