Project: '84 SWB The Good, The Bad and The Unappreciated!

'84 C10 SWB 350/350 up until this year I thought it was a 305 but always said it had a lot of get up for a 305 lol.

I've had this truck since '08 never really drove it much maybe a few times a month then it went into hibernation for almost 5 long years I put her back on the road in '16 only to have it spin a rod bearing...back into hibernation for 2 years this time. My father stole it, a whole bunch of **** is missing or just trashed...but she's back where she belongs with me.
I did keep meticulous records of everything down to the gas receipts.

My plans are simply to take the body down to bare metal, see what abuse I will find...I know the cab has rot-body in the cab corners some pretty bad around the passenger side windshield. Floors are solid no rot, but the firewall behind the distributor looks like rusty cornflakes.

My goal is to learn to weld and fix it right or just let it continue to rot...I have a 4.3 vortec I want to swap in keeping the efi setup, they're gas savers and low maintenance in my experience. I absolutely love them and I've had a 5.7 vortec Suburban and a 5.3 Tahoe and I've seen no one do a 4.3 swap in a square, people talk a lot of junk about 4.3 but I'm building a cruiser not a drag truck.

I replaced the rod bearings with king oversized can't remember the size. Did this just to be able to move her without it sounding like some monster tap dancing in the engine. I will be using this truck to haul junk from the junkyard or scrap to the scrapyard.

Scuffed and painted the bumper.

Tackle driver bedside, and the bondo I found is thick as all hell and for no apparent reason it isn't hiding any horrific body damage.

Body work is the least fun of the whole project, future not to self never buy a classic with fresh paint peeling faded paint is always better!
Some progress yesterday, and I thought this would be a one day sanding project. I will definitely be making a donation to Eastwood for the contour in a few weeks.

Enjoy the education....take your time. I taught myself how to weld, I'm still not that good, but I'm good enough to be dangerous. Best of luck on your build. Mike

Read through your builds and you've given me confidence that I can tackle the welding. Thanks!

Installed window locks, decided to refresh the old glass...removed the old 2% tint and frosted the vent window, painted the handle 1 down 1 to go on to the drivers side in the morning.

Pretty sure I burned my sander out, using a mouse sander until I can get to Lowe's or Wally World. Accomplished a little more today, having been feeling well and the heat doesn't help...but the c10 doesn't want to hear about my problems...lol.

In between grilling up some chicken and tending to my dogs...I had an idea to do some custom work to the doors, old junk door panels I had and the crap repop LMC version will mesh up nicely. Had to cut a lot off, but after the fiberglass and vinyl they will be nice.

Made some wheel cradles from scrap wood. I don't trust jackstands!

No real progress on the c10 no time really. I did manage to tackle another project. I threw in a moonroof headliner I've had done and sitting for the past few months, on to the rest.
