Ok, I got my box on, lights in and now looking for a rear bumper. I have two of the after market step bumpers but they are not the look I'm going for. So I would like see some pics of non-step bumpers and where you got them thanks.

I am subbed for this thread. I hope someone has the answer for you. There is a rear step bumper thread. Link:https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...ht=step+bumper There is not a rear (sports) bumper thread that I know of.:chevy: . |

Yep, hard to beat GM. Got mine off Craigslist a few years ago. Sometimes they pop up at swap meets. Some of the aftermarket ones can be a little sketchy, or so I have heard.

I had purchased my step bumper off of LMC, fit and finish were fine. If I recall correctly the are about $150.

Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
Thanks for the pics guys. Looks like all the OEM and after market bumpers look good. I like the fact that they look tucked in. I was worried that they would stick way out beyond the bed side.

You can't beat the factory style sport bumper for "tucked in". Mine is from GMC Pauls and is the Premium Grade one. NOTE: There is an extra 3/4" of gap between the top of my bumper and the bottom of the tailgate due to a 3/4" body lift.

Got my sport bumper from Wes at Classic Heartbeat.
A+ quality and fit. Peanut74, Looking at your photo, I believe if you are changing from the heavy duty step bumper to the sport bumper you will need a set of sport bumper brackets and bumper bolt kit for your swap installation. You also have two gravel guards (RH and LH) that mount on top of the bumper brackets. Someone else may chime in and confirm this? ;) |

Yes, you'll need the brackets, gravel shields and license plate panel. The Truck Shop sells the bumper kits. I think any place that sells aftermarket bumpers sells the bumper kits too.

Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
Thanks for the info samkost. I am switching from a heavy duty to a sport bumper. I did realize that besides the bumper that I needed the bolts and supports. However, I did not know about the gravel guards and license plate bracket. SO thanks for the heads up. It would have sucked to get everything I thought I needed and find out I'm missing parts.
I have two heavy duty bumpers that I need to get rid of at some point. I also thought about putting just a roll pan on it. However, to me it would still look incomplete. |
Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
You are welcome and thanks to allchevy58 for mentioning the license plate frame and light.
Good luck:metal: |
Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
If I can get a bumper and get it installed the back half of my truck will be complete. That would be great and make me feel like I am truly making progress on my truck.
Thanks allchevy58 for the lead on where to look for a bumper kit. I like to get the complete kit from one place if possible. That way if there is an issue no one can point their finger at the other guy. |

Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Bought a chrome sport bumper kit from the Car and Truck Shop. The pricing was a bit of an adventure price on web catalog was $274, went to check out it was $290 as it required "special packaging", then I got the call that there was a $50 surcharge for shipping. Guess the over $300 free shipping didn't apply (I also ordered some other small parts that I needed to get it over the $300). Always an adventure ordering parts.
I will need to get some guidance on the gravel shields installation.:metal: |

Here are the gravel shields on my stepside. Fleetside gravel shields are a little wider, but basically the same.

Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
Thanks for the pics pjmoreland. That really helps me understand how it all goes together. Looks like will have some painting to do to make it look right.

Re: Pics of fleetside rear bumpers
Well I got my rear bumper on and must say I do like the way it is tucked in at the fenders. Like most repo parts nothing fit quite right. The biggest issue was with the gravel shields. The holes for them did not line up with the ones on the bumper brackets. So I slotted the bracket holes to get them attached.
