Why does my manual transmission 81 k10 have a neutral safety wireing

Was taking out all the aftermarket cruise control wiring and noticed a factory plug that was jumped together. Found out it was for a neutral safety switch. Its a Factory 4 speed. No safety switch on the column. Looked for maby a clutch safety switch. Thare is none that I could find. For fun I unjumped the wiring and yep won't start with out it jumped.

I had an '80 K30 4spd and it had a neutral safety switch from factory. That is the earliest truck I had with one. I'm pretty sure the 4spd '78 C30 I had didn't. I remember the one in the '80 went out

I am thinking now that it was a clutch switch that was removed and by passed. That's ok with me. Im so used to it. My 71 doesnt no fancy safety stuff so neither does my 81.

The clutch starter interlock switch has a pigtail that runs from the clutch switch over to the Neutral Safety Switch plug at the base of the steering column. Cruise control should add another pair of wires on the clutch switch.

The manual transmission backup lamp wiring is a similar adaptation. It's a pigtail that plugs into the backup lamp switch on the transmission and runs through the firewall to the backup lamp plug that would fit onto the backup lamp switch on the automatic transmission NSS at the base of the column.

Three on the tree has a switch similar to or the same as the neutral safety switch to control the backup lamps.
