3/4 ton GVWRs

So I have just bought an 2WD '85 Chevy 3/4 ton, 6400 GVWR. What's the difference between the 6400 and the higher rated (can't remember the exact number, something like 7200) option? I know the rear has 9 leafs instead of 7, but is the front spring any different? Is there a difference between 3/4 ton and 1-ton front springs? Can I fit 1-tons in 3/4 ton control arms for extra height? Thanks in advance...

I have thought the same thing i own a 85 3/4 ton scottsdale with all the heavy equipment 3.73 posi heavy front springs heavy rear heavy duty chassis oil cooler all that stuff

I honestly think my truck is as good as a one ton friend of mine had a 87 1 ton only difference i could tell is his frame wasnt as thick and he had F I

i dont think 1 ton springs makes the front end any higher

If thats what your wanting they sell lift springs in 4WD mags for 2wd lift applications.

Alrighty, I was just looking at Chevy Duty and see that there's a regualr and heavy duty front spring for 3/4 tons, so I'll make sure I have the heavy duty one! Then I'll just add a bunch of leafs to the back until I can tow a mountain! Haha.

My truck had 8 or 9 leafs i think i put some 1 1/4 ton millatary springs in that had 11 total

GVW

Besides the different Spring Packs. Brake Drum sizes also played a role in the 3/4T for GVW Rating, the largest being 2.5"x13". In a 1 Ton, the frames are thicker and drums are larger,3.5"x13 and Hydro Boost was added to the brake system.

ive seen some one tons with vaccum assit brakes

Ive got that heavy brake option too with the cast iron master cylinder JB6 or something like that got the huge brake drums in the rear someone ordered my truck special i think Not sure thou.

Thats different.... Never seen a 1 Ton without Hydro Boost.

So is the larger back brakes on the 1-ton only? I'm really only wondering about the two different ratings of 3/4 tons, since that's what I just picked up.

Im not sure my 3/4 has some enormus brakes they are quite bigger than other 3/4 tons i have seen

I just noticed in your sig that your 3/4 ton has a 305?

dacanuck 01-28-2004 09:22 PM

Yeah it has a 305. Originally a 350 but the person I bought it from had a used 305 put in recently. I'm waiting for my new BFG All-Terrains and wheels to arrive at the tire shop before I can even think about affording and building a 350.

Devil'S Ride 01-29-2004 04:28 AM

My 3/4 is a Factory HD model, has 13 inch rear brakes, some of the other 3/4's came with 11inchers I think.... mine too has that monster cast iron master cylender....an its a ***** an half to replace price wise....

oh, and those AT tires are good stuff..good luck with yer 350 build..

dacanuck 01-29-2004 09:05 PM

Okay, I thought something might be different since even half-tons have two different sizes of brakes. My tires (285/75R16) and rims came in today, so I'll be picking them up tomorrow...can't wait to see them! "Devil's" your truck sounds pretty wild!
