If you were to cut off the 2+ inches I think you would loose the splines on the output shaft.

The spacer is 2+ inches thick and with that you still have to grind about 1/8 off each shaft so they will not bind up if you forget to grind the shafts you will not get the two parts to seal. let alone have the bindding problem.
The other way is to get the short shaft from A/A
