Thanks to everyone else for their input. I'm so confussed. I like the cold air intake idea, but afraid it will take away from a nice and clean engine bay. If done right it might add to the appeal. I've never seen one done to this style truck. I'm sure Jon might have a pic.

You won't want an original pre-69 cowl induction air cleaner. . .... they're freakin' outrageously expensive. I've seen the 'common' units (big block Chevelles) listed on the auction type venues for $3K......
used! The aftermarket units made aren't cheap either @ $1500+

I think a better option would be one of the NASCAR 'used parts' places. You should be able to pick up a used NASCAR style air cleaner shroud & adapt it to your firewall (NASCAR cars get their cool air from the firewall/base of the windshield). They're made from both aluminum & carbon fiber & usually go for less than $150.
