Thats sort of what I figured the dealer does to prevent this from happening. Maybe they should put that in the owners manual or something. I think it's unreasonable to assume that the average joe isn't going to change his own battery when it inevitably goes dead. If there is a special procedure to prevent damage to the vehicle then that procedure should be published. jmo
