You need to get with the local DPS and get a state assigned VIN tag. It's a bit of a pain in the butt to do this but you don't risk loosing your ride this way. I had to go this route on a '57 panel I had a few years back. A close friend of mine is a Sgt. with the DPS in charge of vehicle theft. He's the one that set me straight on this.

It actually has a state of california assigned vehicle number tag on it but the numbers have been scratched off. Im just trying to sell this thing, im not doing any work with it regarding the title as i have enough work trying to get a title on my 56 pickup. Someday ill get under there and check the frame under the floor. I only got a partial vin from by the steeing box.

Anybody know prefix code for a 1/2 ton panel? I was told what city the supposed last owner lives in so if i guess and get it right then maybe i can get a title that way.
